Fertile plains - suggestive waterfalls - black beaches - glacial lagoonWe head towards the Hellisheiði pass which offers a wonderful view of the southern coast. You pass the village of Hveragerði also called the "village of the greenhouses" and continue through fertile plains and small villages admiring in the distance various mountain ranges as well as the majestic Hekla volcano. The goal of the long day is to admire the Jokulsarlon glacial lagoon, where the icebergs float until the ocean water melts them. Along the way there will be intermediate stops to admire the beauty of the south coast.Overnight in the Hella area.
Travel across the cultivated plains of the southern coast to the port of Landeyjahofn. Take a 30-minute ferry to the Westman Islands, enjoying the view of the volcanic islands and seabirds. Your destination is Heimaey Island, the largest of the Westman archipelago. It is the only inhabited island. Life here is quite different from that on the Icelandic "mainland". You will discover the unique history and culture of the area by taking a short trip around the island.Take a dip into the past and visit the Eldheimar Museum. There you can admire houses covered with lava from a previous eruption and where grass and moss now cover the same here and there. Return to the mainland at the end of the day. Overnight and free dinner in Reykjavík.
We continue through lunar panoramas towards the Blue Lagoon, which rises in the middle of corrugated lava fields. The Blue Lagoon is known for the special properties of its mineral-rich waters and for its beneficial effects on the skin. It is the best place for our relaxing bath. Meeting with the guide at the hotel entrance. Departure for the Þingvallavatn region, the largest lake in Iceland. Visit to the Þingvellir National Park, of extreme naturalistic, geological and historical interest. Here, in fact, not only is it possible to admire the phenomenon of the division of tectonic plates but in ancient times also the Althingi, the oldest parliamentary form in the world, met there. Then visit the hot springs of Geysir where the active Strokkur will greet you with its high jets of water and steam. A few minutes away, stop to admire the majestic Gullfoss "golden waterfall" often accompanied by a cheerful rainbow. Continue south for a short visit to the greenhouse village Hveragerði before returning to Reykjavik.
